First line of the readme:

First thing you need to change default Firefox bindings like Ctrl-N. It is impossible to change or disable that bindings

But you can patch Firefox to remove these restrictions. You don't need to rebuild Firefox, you just unzip a file, patch it then zip it up again.

See this discussion glacambre/firefox-patches#1 and this AUR script that automates the whole process for you https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/firefox-no-reserved-keys-patch

Obviously, if you patch Firefox, you might break things. More dangerous than fiddling with about:config. But not impossible!
