Hello everyone, I bought my modules (2 pieces) from the same seller and they work!
After a few hours of trying and searching for the right drivers, I became aware here on Github that this could be due to the different PSRAM modules. These differences in PSRAM modules can cause the modules do not work (?).
I am using a PC (Win10) and I could not connect via USB/COM. I could not successfully install the drivers for the ESP32 USB module (CH340C).
Maybe I'm too stupid for that. It didn't work for me. In the Device manager, under "Ports (COM & LTP)" the following was displayed: "Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM5)". Under "Properties" the following device status was displayed: "This hardware device is not currently connected to the computer. (Code 45)". I've tried different micro USB cables.
Like I said maybe I'm doing something wrong here!? If anyone has a solution I would be very grateful. I think it could be the PSRAM modules.

@JohNan: Sorry to hear that it's not working on your side. Your error message states that PSRAM chip is not properly detected, either elctrical connection or chip is bad.

My three working boards have a different PSRAM chip: AP MEMORY 6404L-3SQR-1120B 130028G. Unfortunately, it seems you cannot derive functional boards from buying source. For some reason it's quite random if you get a working one or not...

Are you using the device with this adapter board and USB port? If I remember right, somebody stated that it's worth to try it without that board to surly exclude electrical impact.

Im using a CP2102 of this kind https://hitechchain.se/iot/cp2102-usb-uart-board-micro to power and flash the device. I flashed tasmota in hope to get some more info out of the board and using their Berry scripting command tasmota.memory() i got the following result with no mention of PSRAM at all. So I guess tasmota also didn't detect it:

The slow responding resp. disconnects most likely do have nothing to do with the module. I guess your wifi reception is too weak. The external antenna should improve this. Please also have a look on the RSSI on the overview page (bottom right corner).

I have bought two of those on 11.4.2023, which got delivered last week. I only tested one, but that was easy to flash and seems to work. be aware that this is one board, including wifi antena and USB. The board is a little bit longer and does not fit into some cases, you find on thingiverse.

I got three modules. The datasheet states 4MB PSRAM, but it comes with an APS6404L-3SQR (64 MBit) and the log also reports 8MB.

That looks very nice, but the ESP32-S3 is a totally different architecture than the ESP32-D0WDQ6, so there's no way the same firmware binaries would work on both, and there's likely significant effort involved in making ones for the S3.

Yeah. That's the most common issue and sole gripe I have with whole USB. Who cares that connectors fit when it's very random if things will even work. Finding matching source, cable and end device is like playing "match 3".

I also ordered 2 APKLVSR. It needs soldering to use the external antenna... My first one doesn't work anymore because of the soldering that need too much precision, almost undoable with a classic soldering iron.
The second one, doesn't light up the Internal Led/Flash when taking pictures and also during the setup (reference image), so also unusable for this application...

Septic Usage Tracking with ESP32-CAM

First, thank you so much for this project.

I'm using this in the US for an unusual purpose—tracking my septic usage. We've been having issues with our septic system for a few years, and this, coupled with an hour meter, will provide invaluable data.

Current Setup

Case and Modifications

I've made some modifications to this ESP32-CAM case to better suit my setup:

• Added a slot for the external IPEX antenna.
• Widened the cutout for the USB port.

Note: I can provide the modified STL file later if anyone wants it.

Additional Details

This specific ESP32 CAM board, required switching the 0 Ohm resistor from on-board antenna to the IPEX connector. I didn't have any SMD soldering tools, so this part came out a bit sloppy.

This setup has been working well, and I'm happy to share any insights or further modifications as needed. If anyone has similar use cases or needs assistance, feel free to reach out.

I was not paying much attention to the details when I ordered them because it was a quick decision a late night after seeing a 3rd party site about using them for meter reading. Both are now configured and running (there's some other issues that are related to where my meters are located etc. but they have both delivered results and one is currently feeding into home assistant)

I have bought many of these ESP-CAMs without problems.
There is an option with the soldered antenna resistor.

I'm very new to all this and my head is spinning by all the options available. (Trying to use AI on edge to read my digital water/electrical meter, neither has any ports and my understanding signals are infrequent and encrypted)

Can someone tell me the simplest board to use that doesn't require any extra modifications?

I've seen this item on Amazon which is much pricier, but if it's a simpler solution for a newbie is rather spend the extra money.
