Text filings are different to parse than e.g. html, pdf etc. .txt files are usually actually extracted SGML files from the submissions.txt files filed by companies to EDGAR. EDGAR does not have a good API for filings before 2001 - am fixing this with my own archive, ETA next week.
I know that it only became mandatory to have June 2001, does the txt filings just become fundamentally different to parse?
