Amp currently relies on syntax definitions included in syntect, which is convenient but not comprehensive (e.g. Nix isn't included in that list). It would be great to build a system to vendor these and others so we can start to grow the list of languages/formats supported out of the box. For languages/formats that don't have preexisting syntax definitions available, this would be an area where users can contribute to Amp by creating ones for file types they use.
