Slate stopped working in MacOS Monterey

As of 12.6, Slate is no longer working. No changes to the config. I've tried rebooting. Ensured that Slate is enabled in Security & Privacy -> Accessibility.

Any tips on troubleshooting? Logs?

I’m able to successfully use Slate in macOS 12.6. Do you see the Slate icon in Security & Privacy -> Accessibility? If so, here’s what I would try. (If you don’t see it, follow the steps, ignoring deletion of the icon from the Accessibility sysprefs window.) 1. Locate Slate.app so that you can see it in a Finder window. 2. Launch Activity Monitor (/Applications/Utilities), press command-1 (⌘-1) to open its main Activity Monitors main window if that window isn’t open. 3. Use Activity Monitor’s Search field to look for “Slate”. If it’s there, select it then press command-option-q (⌘⌥-q), then Enter to quit it. Force quit shouldn’t be necessary. If no listing for Slate exists in Activity Monitor, then quit Activity Monitor and proceed with these instructions. 4. Double-click the Slate icon that you’ve located in Finder in the first step. That should ensure that the correct instance of the Slate application is launched. It’s common that more than one instance may exist, contributing to confusion. You may see a dialog stating that Accessibility must be enabled for Slate. That means you’re on the right track. If you don’t see that, then try using Slate to see if it works. If it doesn’t seem to be working, then refer to Activity monitor again, and you may find that there is a problem with Slate’s configuration which prevents it from working. Creating and logging in as a temporary user for the Mac system can help you troubleshoot those kinds of issues. 5. If you saw the warning, dismiss it and quit Slate, from its menu bar item or from Activity Monitor. 6. In Security & Privacy -> Accessibility, unlock the lock icon by clicking it then authorizing in the ensuing dialog. 7. Select the Slate icon on the right side of the window, then press the minus (-) button to remove it. Drag the Slate.app icon from its Finder window into the area containing the other icons in the right side of the Accessibility window. Ensure that the box for the listing has a check mark in it, clicking it if necessary. 8. Try launching Slate.app again. Laine Lee

Thanks. I'd ensured it was checked in Security & Privacy -> Accessibility, but hadn't thought to remove it from there and readd it. That worked.

Yeah, I should've put that before step 4. I just decided to cram in all the troubleshooting help I could think of. Unfortunately, even when you know what's involved in solving Mac issues, the interface can still fool you. I mean there are too many situations where to turn something on, you have to turn it off first, then turn it back on. Or vice versa.

Fantastic. I thought I was going to have to say goodbye to my beloved Slate, and switch to one of the inferior alternatives.
