Sounds like a good idea. The smtp.office365.com also works with outlook.com and hotmail.com email addresses or other Microsoft email accounts with free email addresses. |

The only caveat for the settings below is that if you have an Apple ID that is does not end in @icloud.com then you must create an email alias within your apple iCloud account settings (https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage) then select "Email and Phone Numbers" to create an iCloud alias for the apple ID. Use the iclould alias for hte email account, not the non iclould.com email address. This may be the case for other services (i.e. if you use yahoo.com email your email must end in a domain controlled by the SMTP server address) iCloud (TLS) iClound (SSL) |

Google has made its email SMTP services difficult to use because of spam
controls. I’ve given up and switched to AWS. With AWS, you’ll be in a
sandbox, which means you can only send emails to addresses you’ve
verified.

Well not sure what I did but I rebooted the Pi and also reset the app
password and it has been working for a couple of hours now.

That may be true depending on on your use case.
I use a dedicated gmail account to send automated messages to primary
email account. No other emails are sent. No issues other than when they
switched to all accounts must use 2 factor auth, then a quick change to my
account and it has been working without a glitch.

Yes, very good news. I am using DHCP and I think you are on the right
track as my router/internet provider seems to go offline quite often. If
it messes up again, I will just reboot the Pi, thanks.

that is great. Is you pi setup to get an IP from the router (DHCP) or is
it static? I have seen situations where when using a DHCP address and the
router has rebooted but the pi has not. In this case the router issues the
IP that was assigned to the pi to a new device and the ARP/routing talbes
bet messed up. A reboot typically fixes this problem. If you are using a
static IP then I don't have a good guess.

Yes, I have a UPS on my router.

The router going down is the bigger issue than the ISP going down as the
router handles DHCP on your local network, though obviously with the ISP
down there is no outgoing connection. Do you have a UPS for your network
equipment? That can really help avoid some of these problems. It doesn't
have to be a big one, I like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FWAZEIU/ for
TVs and such, just to keep the hardware online until the generator kicks in
or through all those 2 or 3 second outages. I do recommend getting one that
has a USB input port (that one does right next to the power cord) as you
can use that to tune the sensitivity if it gets annoyed with your
generator. APC is the only consumer grade brand I have have had 100%
success with as long as it's this minimum model that can be tuned.

Then your router shouldn't be rebooting, the router rebooting is likely
where your DHCP issues come from. Is it old or bad equipment?

I think it could be really helpful for those new to genmon to have a consolidated list of known good configs for different mail servers, with a "last confirmed" date, and any details needed such as if making an app password or app login is necessary and how to do that or a link to an article with the instructions for it. It would also make it easier than trying to search issues for "gmail" configs given how many posts will mention gmail and have nothing to do with configs. I'm happy to share mine:
Office 365 - working 4/6/2024
Email account is full email address
Password is same as webmail password
SMTP Server = smtp.office365.com
SMTP Server Port = 587
Use SSL = OFF
Disable TLS = OFF
Disable SMTP Auth = OFF
