ISSUE:windows server core 2022 install as a service: service not starting #145
Comments
have updated with the log files. |
OK more looking into it and looking at the logs. It seems there is a lot of isssues around ffmpeg. I did some research of a guy with a similar issue and found this article was his solution https://superuser.com/questions/1742768/ffmpeg-on-windows-server-core-2022 It seems that 2 dll files are missing from windows system 32 folder. AVICAP32.DLL and MSVFW32.DLL. According to the article its only to do with server core, however checking my server 2022 desktop experience (datacenter edition) the files are not there either. This may be something requiring further investigation. This has now got the service started under both the system account and my domain service account setup to specifically run this service. However I am still trying to get to the web interface. May have to double check all the firewall rules etc. Keep you posted. |
Have attempted a complete reinstall from the .exe. Still nothing. Firewalls rules all seem good and lock seems to indicate the correct IP addresses and network ranges are in play. Any further suggestion? [2025-01-05 00:04:38.812 +09:30] [INF] [1] Main: Jellyfin version: "10.10.3" |
OK one step further.
I am now having an issue where the web interface is saying "We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again." One step further |
I have managed to fix the last issue which I apologize, was a fault of my own. My browser cache was still loading all the old information from the old server I just deleted. Will advise if any further issues. May be wise to look at the previous comment and rectify these few niche problems I have found with server core that may be present on the standard server edition as well. |

Hi there Have hyper-v VM running windows server core 2022 datacentre edition
Installed Jellyfin 10.10.3 as a service via the installer.
Have an issue where the service will not start at all.
Have tried multiple accounts (including the inbuilt system account) and a dedicated domain administrator account with no success.
Have checked microsoft event viewer with the only error saying it stopped unexpectedly.
Have made sure the account running the service has admin privledges to the install of jellyfin
Have checked all firewall rules are in place.
IS there a known fault with windows on the new version or am I missing something?
I originally attempted to update from 10.8.3 but this did not work either (for some reason the service disappeared and wouldn't come back).
