title: Computer Anonymous - Edinburgh
---
<h1>Computer Anonymous - Edinburgh</h1>
<p>Read <a href="index.html">the overview</a>, if you haven't already.</p>
<h2>First Meeting!</h2>
<p>Our first meeting will be at <a href="http://www.thesouthern.co.uk">The Southern</a> on Tuesday the 8th of October, from 7pm.</p>
<p>This is pretty much a 'figuring things out' meeting, and in no way sets an expectation for future venues, or even dates. If there's an indication that moving date or location will improve accessibility then we'll definitely do it.</p>
<p><strong>You do not need to sign up or let anyone know if you want to attend!</strong> Please just turn up on the day and look for the crowd of geeks. I'll be there: I'm best described as a large mobile beard. If you've any questions or uncertainties, please contact me on Twitter (<a href="https://twitter.com/semanticist">@semanticist</a>) or by email ([email protected]).</p>
<h2>The Meetings</h2>
<p>Current proposal: second Tuesday of the month, starting on Tuesday the 8th of October.</p>
<p>Is this a terrible day to have a meeting? Propose something else, we can vote on it.</p>
<h3>Venue:</h3>
<p>The usual suspects for a techy meetup are:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<a href="http://www.theholyrood.co.uk">Holyrood 9a</a>, <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=9a+HOLYROOD+ROAD%2C+EDINBURGH%2C+EH8+8AE&data=!1m4!1m3!1d2723!2d-3.1827395!3d55.9494071!4m12!2m11!1m10!1s0x4887c78615934e59%3A0xe69c1d18b34735f4!3m8!1m3!1d4360605!2d-4.6873411!3d57.7469948!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1">here</a>.
</li>
<li>
<a href="http://www.thesouthern.co.uk">The Southern</a>, <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=22-26+South+Clerk+Street%2C+Newington%2C+Edinburgh+EH8+9PR&data=!4m12!2m11!1m10!1s0x4887c781c692448f%3A0xdf1c5044dedb7b77!3m8!1m3!1d4360605!2d-4.6873411!3d57.7469948!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1">here</a>.
</li>
<li>
<a href="http://www.theauldhoose.co.uk/">The Auld Hoose</a>, <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/preview#!q=The+Auld+Hoose%2C+Saint+Leonard's+Street%2C+Edinburgh%2C+United+Kingdom&data=!4m10!1m9!4m8!1m3!1d36254!2d-3.2080624!3d55.951108!3m2!1i1440!2i779!4f13.1">here</a>
</li>
</ul>
<p>But do we want to go back to the same old places? Perhaps there's somewhere nice down Leith, or in some other part of the town that would be more accessible to people who don't normally go to meet-ups?</p>
<p>Other venues:</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.spoonedinburgh.co.uk">Spoon</a></strong>, <a href="https://maps.google.com/maps?q=6a+Nicolson+Street,+Edinburgh+EH8+9DH&client=safari&oe=UTF-8&hnear=6A+Nicolson+St,+Edinburgh,+Midlothian+EH8+9DH,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=16">here</a>.</p>

</ul>
<p>You can add your name by doing a fork and pull request on the <a href="https://github.com/computeranonymous/computer/blob/gh-pages/uk_edinburgh.html">github page</a>, or by emailing computercomputercomputer at glastonbridge dot co dot uk. The latter method is somewhat unreliable and uses a high-latency meat interface, but it tries hard.</p>
<p>There is also an edinburgh-specific IRC channel on freenode called ##computer.ed</p>
