This is to help us remember to think about certificates more in advance for next year. @albenson-usgs shared some feedback that past participants thought the certificate needed to look more official. This year, we included workshop dates and a QR code to the Zenodo DOI for the 2024 version of the workshop.

For next year, other improvements to consider:

  • Is there any authority or institution that could be added to increase the "heft" of the value of these certificates? Or any digital signatures we could add?

From a technical standpoint, I had issues with the seagrass image in the bottom banner turning into a black box when the certificates were generated using the code (sorry, I am having a hard time finding a link to put here for the code @MathewBiddle?) and saved as a PDF. I also found the font size too large for many participants' full names so I had to make changes to the certificate template in the repository. Unfortunately, I also could not figure out how to properly make an svg file template so the template I used in 2024 for the certificates was made in Google Slides.

Please feel free to add any other possible improvements for the certificates for 2025.

Here is the certificate code https://github.com/ioos/bio_mobilization_workshop/tree/gh-pages/certificate

Previously, I linked to a branch on my fork, which was merged here last year and I forgot. Sorry for the confusion.
