I finally got around to testing this. I tried to stick closely to your settings but used only 2 GPUs and reduced some numbers like batch size for memory. Regarding the packages, I use trl 0.12.1 and torch 2.5.1. At first, training seemed to run fine. But when I changed the As a next step, I switched to a much smaller model (opt-125m) and tried full fine-tuning to check if the error is PEFT-related. Interestingly, I got the same type of error ( All this leaves me a bit puzzled. Tentatively pinging @muellerzr in case he has come across this error or knows someone else who might have. Thanks for the additional feedback. I did some more testing and I could get the checkpoint to work by downgrading to the following packages:
Note that those are most likely not the exact maximal versions, but it's very hard to figure those out as I had to change all 4 of them together, as there are mutual dependiencies. @vrancurel @Amerehei It would be great if you could test this out and report back if those versions solve the issue for you too. If that's the case, it confirms my suspicion that the error is not PEFT related. |

Thanks for trying it out @Amerehei. The error seems to be caused by flash attention 2 and is probably unrelated to the initial issue. Could you try rebuilding the package or not using flash attention? |
