Implement ability to encrypt clipboard items database (%APPDATA%\copyq\copyq_tab_XYZ.dat) by symmetric algorithm.
User would be prompted for password each time CopyQ started.

This is what I was just trying to figure out how to do. However, instead of prompting the user for a password each time the app starts, you can simply store the key in gnome-keyring and it will be unlocked when the user logs in or unlocks their system. The documentation for it along with example code to store a password in the keyring via the API can be found here.

Edit: I just realized your path example is for Windows. Same concept applies but it would have to use Windows Credential Vault instead. Still, no need to bother the user for another password on any platform.

Some simple data encryption would be really useful. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to look into this and the only data protection supported by the app currently is using gpg (public/private keys), which is quite complex, not user-friendly and can break easily.

I think the easiest way to implement proper encryption would be to use QCA library from The KDE Frameworks. The big upside is that it is compatible with Qt framework, no other dependencies are needed, and already supports the major OSes supported by CopyQ.
