Maybe I understand it wrong, but I think that according to the definition of _SIDD_CMP_RANGES, ranges2[3] (excessive \177) has no meaning.

Would you mind pointing us to the source of that information? I'd presume that would be a particular sentence within one of the Intel's developer manuals.
