I saw that this was asked a few years back and that the relevant issue has been since closed, but I wanted to ask if there were any efforts since to make this happen.
Triangle-only support may be covering many use cases however in reality all the hard work being done to create models from start to end with clean quad topology is impossible to compress effectively right now. If we just convert to triangles, all of it is lost.
I believe it would have been a very important contribution adding enormous utility.

There is an update on support for quadmesh from the AOM/VVM Standard side. But the performance is a little bit off compared to the other software solutions.
I'm not sure whether Google will release that version.
