A really nice feature to have to able to view related glyphs together in the side menu and an example of this would be displaying the letter "A" and "a" next to each other, this way you don't need to constantly scroll down to search for the related glyphs.

Another example is in the Arabic font there are different forms of the same letter based on the position where the letter is in the word i.e code, isolated, initial, medial and final etc

You probably could have an option switching between the glyphs accordion and grouped glyphs

Could you take a look at #6 ? It's not exactly the same, but it's showing characters inline with the one you are editing. I'm also thinking about making it quick to jump to edit a glyph that is shown in context.

This isn't exactly what your idea is, but effectively you could show a few 'related' glyphs in context to one you are editing, and that could be a 'group' kind-of :-)

I bring it up because #6 will probably be implemented very soon.

I understand the requirement - i'll leave this open and we'll consider it for future releases. Thanks for the idea!
