What i've found to be the best resource for learning about Operating Systems while i was in college.

It dives reasonably deep into the subject, and its completely free (The online version ):

Used this for UVA's OS class. Recommend it as a really good free textbook. Our prof was old school nerd and he only had a few disagreements with the way the book presented some topics.
