Installing ALPS on Stampede.
============================
Suppose you are working at some "work directory". Let's refer to it as $mywork:
$ cd ~/where/i/install/things
$ mywork=$PWD
Download Boost:
$ wget -S 'http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/boost/boost/1.48.0/boost_1_48_0.tar.bz2?r=http%3A%2F%2Fsourceforge.net%2Fprojects%2Fboost%2Ffiles%2Fboost%2F1.48.0%2F&ts=1435765441&use_mirror=iweb' -O boost_1_48_0.tar.bz2
Unpack Boost and go to Boost directory:
$ tar -xjf boost_1_48_0.tar.bz2
$ cd boost_1_48_0/tools/build/v2/
Tell Boost that we want to have MPI library installed (unless the directive is already there):
$ [ -f ~/user-config.jam ] && grep '^using mpi ;' ~/user-config.jam || echo 'using mpi ;' >>~/user-config.jam
Bootstrap Boost:
$ ./bootstrap.sh
$ ./b2 install --prefix=$mywork/boost_1_48_0/000install_b2
Install Boost in $mywork/boost_1_48_0.installed (this will take a while):
$ cd $mywork/boost_1_48_0/
$ ./000install_b2/bin/b2 toolset=intel-15.0.2 --prefix=$mywork/boost_1_48_0.installed install
Meantime, one can download and unpack ALPS:
$ cd $mywork
$ wget http://alps.comp-phys.org/static/software/releases/alps-2.2.b4-src.tar.gz
$ tar -xzf alps-2.2.b4-src.tar.gz
$ cd alps-2.2.b4-src/
$ ALPS_DIR=$PWD/install
$ mkdir build && cd build
Download a patch and patch ALPS to prevent it from searching for Python unnecessarily:
$ wget https://gist.githubusercontent.com/galexv/811b1183019c7198d252/raw/eb2fc11a80347c83868fc8486eac92c77b8203aa/alps-patch.patch
$ (cd ../alps/config; patch -b) <alps-patch.patch
Install ALPS:
$ module add hdf5 fftw3 cmake
$ CC=$(which icc) CXX=$(which icpc) cmake ../alps -DBoost_NO_SYSTEM_PATHS=1 -DMKL_INCLUDE_DIR=$MKLROOT -DFFTW_INCLUDE_DIR=$TACC_FFTW3_INC -DFFTW_LIBRARIES=$TACC_FFTW3_LIB/libfftw3.a -DHDF5_ROOT=$TACC_HDF5_DIR -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$ALPS_DIR -DBOOST_ROOT=$mywork/boost_1_48_0.installed -DALPS_BUILD_PYTHON=OFF
(get a bunch of warnings regarding libz.so.1 in /usr/lib64 being hidden by /opt/apps/zlib/1.2.8/x86_64/lib)
$ nice make -j4
$ make install
