Ability to submit revision/modification of an existing icon?

I really liked the look of this icon by @DingusPingus

but as you can see its a bit of a mess on the edges - and it is also a little low res (and not exactly the right size)

so I cropped down the original, used Pixelmator's "Super Resolution" to upscale, cut out the main bits and overlaid over a new gradient applied to a template (blank input img2icon version), generating:

This is great for my own use … but what do I do with it?

I can't really submit it as a new icon cause I can't in good faith check the "I'm the author of this icon" box.

an obvious example of other uses of such ability would be to submit dark (or light) mode variations of an existing design
