Description:

To define the format of subtitling. subtitling's main use isfor translation. This is provided as free text in an annotation label or as an identifier pointing to a term in a classification scheme.

And there's: ec:Subtitling and ec:Captioning, both subclasses of Resource > MediaResource > Track, both with open and closed subclasses.

Description for ec:Subtitling:

To signal the presence of subtitles for translation in alternative languages.

How do these two relate to each other? It seems ec:SubtitlingFormat is redundant?

ec:SubtitlingFormat is a subclass of skos:concept. We use this subclassing for very many typifications, categorizations and alike. It is intended to provide a reference via hasFormatId to a classification scheme. It also groups those classifications under one name, providing a simpler alternative instead of having to define skos:conceptScheme for each of the lists in the classification schemes.
Although I concede that this may not be the best style to do it, I think we can live with it. And if you'd rather work with explicit skos:conceptSchemes and the concepts linking to it, I think you can do that, too.
