Problem Description

When attempting to download diesel-cli, using the following command:

cargo install diesel_cli --force

I am faced with the following error:

I have tried looking at other issue reports to fix it, none of them were able to solve it. It keeps complaining about not finding "libmysqlclient" which I fail to understand since Mysql is successfully installed on this computer:

I have

• Restarted the computer several times to make sure it was not a path issue
• Manually set the path setx MYSQLCLIENT_LIB_DIR "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Connector C 6.1\lib\vs14"
• Installed MySQL Server 8.0
• Installed MySQL Connector C 6.1
• Installed MySQL connector on the Ubuntu WSL2 instance

And nothing is working, it keeps complaining, I've spent hours trying to figure it out, looking through bug reports but nothing, looking for information on how to proceed as I am genuinely stuck at this point

I converted this to a support question as this is an issue with your local setup and not a bug in diesel.

That written based on your description you seem to miss setting the MYSQLCLIENT_VERSION environment variable. The error message explicitly mentions that:

Set the MYSQLCLIENT_LIB_DIR and MYSQLCLIENT_VERSION environment
variables to point the compiler to the right directory and specify
which version is used

I also suggest to check out the "Installing Diesel-CLI" section of the getting started guide. It explains the requirements and outlines various other options.

Unfortunately gave up temporarily as the getting started guide did not have instructions for how to find MYSQLCLIENT_VERSION or setting it persistently, this is probably something that can be found fairly easily through google but I hit some time limitations due to work

• Points our several easy solutions how to just not have this problem

Additionally the error message says:

Set the MYSQLCLIENT_LIB_DIR and MYSQLCLIENT_VERSION environment
variables to point the compiler to the right directory and specify
which version is used

which is in my opinion really clear, so I don't see what could be improved here at all. As for how to make these settings "persistent": That depends on your operating system, so you need to check the corresponding manual there. This is entirely unrelated to diesel.
