Solderpads for buttons on PCB?

Hey, I noticed that the PCB appears to have, I assume, spots to solder on buttons. Is there any practical use/is there any function for this in day-to-day use or is it simply for debugging?

They are reserved for possible future uses, maybe memorycard switching without controller input or navigating menus when display support is added...
