Need help getting a return value from a then inside a function

Because of what I end up implementing for: #9428, my then is in a function.

Here is what I am experiencing:

function temp1() {
cy.get(aSelector).then((els) => {
let anObj = {};
// process els and save information needed to anObj
})

My question is 'how do i return anObj variable from function temp1' to use such variable in it block?

My coworker helped answer this question. Gonna post it here in case anyone needs it.

function temp1() {
return cy.get(aSelector).then((els) => {
let anObj = {};
// process els and save information needed to anObj
return anObj;
})
}

In test, call that function as follows

it((testing), function() {
temp1().then((anObj) => {
console.log(anObj);
})
})

You might run into an issue with

And that is because you have a cy command in then.
