Usage of RegExp in a contains() Command

Hey there,

i am currently trying to get the contains() Command to match exactly for finding certain elements. The blogpost at https://www.cypress.io/blog/2019/01/22/when-can-the-test-click/#the-problem has a neat example using a RegExp. I adapted this to include search a partial DOM of the webpage.
cy.contains('.area', new RegExp('^text$', 'm')
This currently doesn't work for me, as i need to put in the html element i want to match on like so:
cy.contains('.area div', new RegExp('^text$', 'm')
The DOM is sth. like the following:
div class="area" div text /div /div
Now the question:
Am i doing something wrong? I intend to narrow down the searched DOM and then match 'text' but not 'text2' for example.

Narrowing the elements down like in https://docs.cypress.io/api/commands/contains#Single-Element works:
cy.get('.area').contains(new RegExp('^text$', 'm')
However then we loose the retrying of getting the .area and i'd like to avoid this with a single .contains
