No progress window for operations

I was copying files over from a usb drive and noticed that there seemed to be no indicator of how far the operation had progressed.
I had no idea when it completed and had to assume it was done.

I feel like there should be some sort of indicator that allows you to check the progress of file operations. along with the ability to cancel an operation which right now cannot be done to my knowledge.
