podman-compose not compatible with drives whose name contains "." or with simlinked directories

Issue Description

All my git projects are on an external SSD I'd named M.2. When running podman-compose -p {target} up --build -d from a project directory on this drive I'd get the following errors:

Copying config sha256:9ded92f6e58904cadd7fb6df8dcc8ca23cf034aba4c6640342c35f5ae8feffcd
Writing manifest to image destination
Error: statfs /Volumes/M.2/Projects/workspace/{project_directory}: no such file or directory
Error: no container with name or ID "install-npm_1" found: no such container

Renaming the drive to M2 and moving the project directory to the internal drive solved the problem, but not until I was nearly bald from tearing my hair out.

2. Clone a git project which has Docker configuration enabled
3. Create a symbolic link to that directory & cd to it
4. Run podman-compose -p {target} up --build -d (where {target} is an alias for a Docker image)
