This pull request is as relevant today as it was in 2016 when the author submitted it. It seems many other current github.com/cisco projects are using CMake now, and it would be preferable for many users. It doesn't look like anyone has even given any response to the author at all to the PR, as is the case for 5 other open PRs. Any response at all would be helpful to community users.

I think it needs conflicts to be resolved. There's another more actual PR based on that: #119. Yet, it's left unresponded as well.
