Is there a way to load the folder tree in collapsed state?

When there is a lot of folders, the tree gets huge and not very easy to navigate. To be able to find anything, the users have to collapse every node manually. But as soon as they click on a folder to show it's content, the page reloads and all nodes are expanded again. Very frustrating and not so good UX.
I have searched the docs and google it it, but I can't find a solution. Is it possbile?
