I have adventurejs.club on hover, but it is going to expire in a couple of days. I don't think I need to keep it up - we haven't done much with this this last year, and I feel that the domain is just unnecessary.

Anyone who feels differently, let me know!

This is sad 😢 I think we should keep it for another year or two and actually bring back the event.

If you don't want to pay for it, I'm happy to chip in for it / or you can transfer it to me and I'll take care of it.

Kept. :D Let's keep it, then.

Let's have another event! Shall we start dropping plans in here?

Yeah, let's! What do you think about:

  • Doing a repeat in Svalbard
  • 2-day single-track conference
  • Have 50-100 attendees this time
  • Every attendee also has to speak (same as last time! filters for cool people / encourages newbies to step up / even a 2 min talk is okay)
  • We go when there's 24-hour daylight

A season inversion of ArcticJS would be great. I also really like the idea of encouraging everyone to speak: it's a great way to get to know everyone attending.

i'd be pretty stoked about an Utqiagvik, AK trip (cheaper flight, less travel time, though probably the inverse for people in europe)

@beaugunderson It's pretty hard to compete with Norwegian Airlines for cheapness though. @mafintosh just got a $280 roundtrip from Copenhagen to San Francisco!

cheapest i can find from seattle to svalbard is $1,298 with 36 hours of travel time :(

Alaska is a bit hard. @simonv3 How likely is it that we could have an event in Skagway?

50-100 attendees this time

We'd have to move out of the church and actually get an event in one of the University buildings. We might be able to have the mayor come speak this time, too.

When are you thinking? Around the solstice?

Skagway is cool but I don't think it's what you're looking for. There's no space to host 50-100 people. I don't think our campsite could even host that many.

I'd be super stoked about Svalbard 2.0. I promise to give a talk this time 😄

@beaugunderson When you're going to an exotic destination, never buy a direct ticket! If you buy two legs separately you get a better deal. Locals in Norway go to Svalbard all the time, so they get a different price than an American going there :-)

Check out this roundtrip I found in a quick search, as an example: Roundtrip, 16 hours, $716. 👍 👍 👍
