what goes into manifest.xml?

I'd like to try adding my phone kernel here, but I'm not at all versed in android kernel development, so I have no idea what should go into manifest.xml. Reading the ones that are in there, it defines what kernel source to use, so where would I find that information for my phone? Is there a tutorial I can read?

Also, the name for the folder is supposed to be the codename of the phone?

I'm using lineage os, if that helps in any way.
