Add variables to URL

Has anyone ever got this to work? I know it seems like such a basic feature but it does not work with global variables in the GET url. It does not work in request headers. And it does not work in pre flight javascript.

I would have thought that sending URL variables would have been the easiest thing to do, but it appears its not even an option.

Ok, so we need to set our own variables with our our own names with a global variable and HTTP Request does NOT encode properly leaving + instead of %20

Hi, I'm not sure I fully understand the issue.

You can just place a variable placeholder into the URL field, and when the shortcut is executed that placeholder is replaced with the value of the variable. So your URL might then look something like this: https://example.com/some/path?a={my_variable}&b={my_other_variable}. If you use a variable placeholder in a URL like that, you should tick the "URL Encode"-Checkbox in the variable editor. That will make sure that the value of the variable gets URL-encoded, such that special characters don't cause problems.

The URL encoding will replace spaces with + characters, based on the java.net.URLEncoder implementation. This may unfortunately not work with all servers. Is this the problem here?

Hi thanks, yes. + for spaces causes issues and requires regex decoding at the other end as opposed to %20

I switched to JSON which is fine. Using this app with N8N means webhooks do not work with GET.

Just something you may want to highlight for people using GET.

I've decided that I will change the behavior of the URL encoder for the next version, such that space characters will be encoded as %20. I hope that won't break anything. Fingers crossed.
