Near Hack the Rainbow Hackathon

Prize Bounty

One (1) Grand Prize
1,000,000 SC (about $3,200 as of this writing)

Two (2) Runner Up Prizes
250,000 SC (about $800 each as of this writing)

And ALL PARTICIPANTS with a prize worth consideration will receive 15,000 SC (about $50 as of this writing)

Challenge Description

Skynet is the decentralized content distribution platform for the new Internet. Create a next generation app or developer tool built on Near, with a front end UI that is hosted on Skynet. A previously built Near app whose UI is moved to Skynet is also acceptable, as long as:

  • the original team who made the Near app completes the migration to Skynet, or;
  • the Skynet app launch gets integrated into the main app repo. If the core team accepts your merge request, that’s good enough for us

Submission Requirements

  • The project must be open source
  • Skynet must be implemented as the front-end UI for a new or existing Near app
  • The app must do something that is useful, entertaining, or interesting
  • Demo videos are strongly recommended for complete submissions (upload your videos to Skynet!)

Submission Deadline

September 30th, 2020

Judging Criteria

Submissions will be judged on the following:

  • A Near app with a Skynet-based UI
  • How applicable the project is and how likely it is to be used by others
  • Potential positive impact on the Skynet and Near ecosystems
  • Works on mainnet
  • Greater appeal to a wider audience

Funding

We will send all winnings separate from the Gitcoin platform. Prizes will be distributed in Siacoins, so you'll need an SC wallet setup to receive them after the hackathon. We'll contact all winners and participation prize qualifiers to get their addresses.

How involved or difficult the application is will not be considered. If a very useful and interesting app can be created with very little effort, this app will still qualify for the grand prize and all other prizes.

Special note: As noted above, the prize is paid out in Siacoins. Siacoins are a cryptocurrency and the USD value might change - potentially significantly - between now and prize distribution. Whether that works out in your favor or against, the prizes are paid in the amounts of Siacoins listed above.
