Lag when typing in Mac OS

Hi,

I have 30 students here and out of 30, 22 are using Safe Exam Browser on a Mac OS and experience quite often a lag when typing text. The lag ranges from few seconds up to few minutes. I can't figure out why :(

No idea, we never experienced this and didn't get any such reports. You have to give us ALL POSSIBLE DETAILS so we can investigate the issue, see the instructions on our support page:

We kindly request you to first read the SEB manuals and search the discussion board for duplicate questions before asking. You'll save us time, which we can better spend for improving SEB.

Please always mention, which SEB version and which operating system you are using (for example Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, OS X 10.13, 10.12, 10.11, 10.10, 10.9, 10.8, 10.7, 10.6) and possibly other details about your system!

We need as much information and details as possible to analyze a problem.

• If an error message was displayed, take a picture with your smartphone and post it (or the exact wording of the error message) together with your description what exactly you or the student were doing when the problem occurred.
• Always try to reproduce a problem and if you can, post the exact steps to reproduce the problem. Usually it's only possible to solve problems which can be reproduced.
• Find out if the problem happens on other computers too. If it happens only on some computers and not on all, what do those have in common?
• Send us SEB log files (see here where to find them on Windows/macOS) and mention the exact time when the problem happened (so we can find it in the log files).

Otherwise we cannot answer your questions properly!

In such cases often the best chance to find a problem is if you can give us a testing login to your system so we can debug the issue ourselves. But still this only helps if we know on which kind of Mac or macOS version this happens, because we need to able to reproduce the problem.

And very important (that question is missing above): Which exam system are you using? If its a commercial e-assessement system, ask the provider of that system first.

Hi, user : moodletest@e.sainteanne.ca pswd : qwerty12 ! This issue happens on all Mac OSX version from El Capitan to High Sierra. I have pinpointed the issue to users who can type a text quite quickly into a text box. It seems the more that is typed in, the longer the lag gets. Hi Jean-Philippe,

Thanks for the test login. I was able to log in to your Moodle, but didn't see (at least at first sight) where I could type in longer text into a text box. Maybe you could direct me to a specific page where the lag happens and I can test it well.

I guess you were using the latest official release SEB 2.1.2? Did you try out if it still happens with the (previous) SEB 2.1.3 pre-release version? Last week I released an updated build of SEB 2.1.3 (named preview 1/2.1.3pre1), maybe you could test if it still happens with this current version.

Did you try if it also happens in the regular Safari browser?

We actually experienced the same problem a few weeks ago with a student who had a mac.
macOS Mojave 10.14.4
SEB 2.1.3

The solution we found was just to log in and out of the exam that was using SEB and then it started to work again correctly without any lag.
But that was also the only student with the problem this day.
So it most likely is a very random bug and not something that might not be so eazy to reproduce unless you actually have a page that can force this issue somehow.

I usually have, out of 15-20 students with Macbook, close to 10 with this issue during an exam. How many students normally have an exam when you experience that so many get this problem?

Do you have any software requirements regarding what operating system they must use and Safe exam Browser version?

Where i work we try to force them to use the latest macOS version 10.14.x and upgrade to the latest version 1 month after Apple releases the new version in mid/late september each year.
They are also told they need to use the latest version of Safe Exam Browser.
