pg_dump password

I am trying to take pg_dump.... I do not remember the password that I entered for the database installation...w where do i lookup up for the password... postgres as password is not working...

pg_dump: error: connection to server at "localhost" (::1), port 5432 failed: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "postgres"
