Overview

I was happy to see such a good app on Play store, not only on GitHub or F-Droid, but it turned out that version from Play store has been really outdated for a very long time.

While the most current version on Play store is 8.1.3, which was released on GitHub on Aug 8, 2023, there's already 8.2.4-2 version on GitHub. What's more interesting, version in F-Droid is also a bit behind, it's 8.2.3. So it's really confusing, making all places except GitHub having outdated version.

I can see there's a really great delay in uploading new version to Play store (8.1.3 was there on Mar 17, 2024), but it shouldn't be that long, it's usually not that long, looking at the other apps.

So please, upload version 8.2.4-2 to Play store or, if there's some reason why it's not possible, at least add some "Legacy" or "Classic" to the name of app in Play store to emphasise the fact it won't get any further updates or these updates will be delayed by many months. Because now, and possibly in the future, it's just better to rely on apk from GitHub than installing app from Play store, what's not so obvious. Thanks.

Update: Yesterday (Dec 9, 2024) I received update for Play store variant to 8.2.3 version (it was released on Mar 16, 2024 on GitHub). It's great to have the newer version on Play store and that this version is finally the same as in F-Droid, but it took more than 8 months to have it done. And it's still outdated comparing to GitHub...

I don't think the process is automated.

As an aside, there was also some incident in recent history where Google started demanding people hand over their build keys. Play store wants to tamper with APKs and the system is designed not to allow it--and some developers have been protesting this. There were also changes prior to that which required a greater degree of doxxing from private authors.
