Unable to build Kernel (no rule for vmlinux) #6

Here's the stack with the msmcortex_defconfig:
Still no rule to build the target vmlinux; The target arch/arm64/boot/Image.gz-dtb was not updated because of errors. I have built a lot of Kernels in the last couple of days. I am probably confused with the defconfigs. How can i get the missing dependencies ? |

Downloading the Source Repo sync all code with default.xml Root your device Pull the necessary libraries from your device by executing the script pull_library.sh After pull_library.sh be executed, a directory named "vendor" should be generated. The current kernel source is not able to be built with GCC 4.9 without making some basic changes. As @rancidfrog already mentioned, the following patch is necessary to have a successful build: |

Build works fine without needing any fixes as long as you specify an output directory in all your make commands. E.g. "make O=out ...". No issues when building msmcortex-perf_defconfig |
{min,max}_capacity are static variables that are only updated from __update_min_max_capacity(), but not used anywhere else. Remove them together with the function updating them. [ Upstream commit 9745e36 ] The register_vlan_device would invoke free_netdev directly, when register_vlan_dev failed. It would trigger the BUG_ON in free_netdev if the dev was already registered. In this case, the netdev would be freed in netdev_run_todo later. So add one condition check now. Only when dev is not registered, then free it directly. [ Upstream commit 9745e36 ] The register_vlan_device would invoke free_netdev directly, when register_vlan_dev failed. It would trigger the BUG_ON in free_netdev if the dev was already registered. In this case, the netdev would be freed in netdev_run_todo later. So add one condition check now. Only when dev is not registered, then free it directly. However, since the device is already gone by the point we try to unregister the netdevice from the driver due to a hotplug we end up seeing that the netif isn't present and thus, forget to free any of the device IRQs. So: make sure that if we're in the process of dismantling the netdev, we always allow __igb_close() to be called so that IRQs may be freed normally. Unfortunately, during server shutdown, this might never happen again. Other option would be "not to handle" the issue in the transport layer. That would trigger the error handler logic, which would also need the session state to be logged in again. Best option, for such case, is to tell upper layers that the command was handled during the transport layer error handler helper, marking it as DID_NO_CONNECT, which will allow completion and inform about the problem. After the session was marked as ISCSI_STATE_FAILED, due to the first timeout during the server shutdown phase, all subsequent cmds will fail to be queued, allowing upper logic to fail faster. The vsnprintf function fills the buffer, counts the truncated chars, then finally writes the \0 at the end. creator other vsnprintf: fill (not terminated) count the rest trace_sched_waking(p): ... memcpy(comm, p->comm, TASK_COMM_LEN) write \0 The consequences depend on how 'other' uses the string. [ Upstream commit c5a94f4 ] It was observed that a process blocked indefintely in __fscache_read_or_alloc_page(), waiting for FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP to be cleared via fscache_wait_for_deferred_lookup(). At this time, ->backing_objects was empty, which would normaly prevent __fscache_read_or_alloc_page() from getting to the point of waiting. This implies that ->backing_objects was cleared *after* __fscache_read_or_alloc_page was was entered. When an object is "killed" and then "dropped", FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP is cleared in fscache_lookup_failure(), then KILL_OBJECT and DROP_OBJECT are "called" and only in DROP_OBJECT is ->backing_objects cleared. This leaves a window where something else can set FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP and __fscache_read_or_alloc_page() can start waiting, before ->backing_objects is cleared There is some uncertainty in this analysis, but it seems to be fit the observations. Adding the wake in this patch will be handled correctly by __fscache_read_or_alloc_page(), as it checks if ->backing_objects is empty again, after waiting. Customer which reported the hang, also report that the hang cannot be reproduced with this fix. commit cf3591e upstream. Revert the commit bd293d0. The proper fix has been made available with commit d0a255e ("loop: set PF_MEMALLOC_NOIO for the worker thread"). Note that the fix offered by commit bd293d0 doesn't really prevent the deadlock from occuring - if we look at the stacktrace reported by Junxiao Bi, we see that it hangs in bit_wait_io and not on the mutex - i.e. it has already successfully taken the mutex. Changing the mutex from mutex_lock to mutex_trylock won't help with deadlocks that happen afterwards. [ Upstream commit 76e7527 ] Some servers seem to accept connections while booting but never send the SMBNegotiate response neither close the connection, causing all processes accessing the share hang on uninterruptible sleep state. This happens when the cifs_demultiplex_thread detects the server is unresponsive so releases the socket and start trying to reconnect. At some point, the faulty server will accept the socket and the TCP status will be set to NeedNegotiate. The first issued command accessing the share will start the negotiation (pid 5828 below), but the response will never arrive so other commands will be blocked waiting on the mutex (pid 55352). This patch checks for unresponsive servers also on the negotiate stage releasing the socket and reconnecting if the response is not received and checking again the tcp state when the mutex is acquired.
