Using env variables in a revit plugin

Hi guys, i'm searching for the best approach to handle env variables with a Revit plugin. Couldn't find a good solution yet, was hoping someone of you could help me further.

It is a bad idea to use env vars for plugins, as the variables will be shared by all plugins because they are running in the same Revit process. It is better to use other configuration alternatives

I would like to setup a connection with my database, the plugin is a company plugin. Do you have any recommendations on how to solve this? I'm a little bit stuck at the moment.

Revit is not a server, all data is in JSON, environment variables are visible to users and developers of other addins, and they should not be stored in plain text. ensure that the connection string is encrypted
