Seems like at very least, there should be a better error message. I tried with a different metamodel but that worked. Which OS are you using?

I have noticed that it takes a while before print "Metamodel lib.ecore could not be found" , maybe NMF just can't parse lib.ecore. The lib.ecore is 4diac ide's function block metamodel. You can search org.eclipse.fordiac.ide.model package, which you can find the lib.ecore.

I was able to reproduce the behavior. The root cause is that lib.ecore references data.ecore at some point and this reference cannot be resolved, because you don't have it locally. I guess it is this one you need. However, I absolutely agree that Ecore2Code should tell this exception instead of swallowing it. Unfortunately, NMF does not have a logging system in order to reduce the external dependencies, but at least Ecore2Code could have printed the error message.

In principle, yes. NMF is able to handle cross-file references. The problem here is that Ecore2Code currently only supports a single -m parameter, so you can only export a single metamodel. Actually, I guess it would be useful to extend the command-line interface to allow multiple target names.
