Direction board members should not be able to vote on proposed suggestions, but rather only support and affirm the community's ability to do so, provide clear, concise and consistent reports on changes and discussions, and provide the implementations of the ideas as necessary.
Instead of being participating members of the community and creating the majority of the ideas to improve the server, direction board members should:
Take suggestions
Go over them
Make little tweaks
Submit it to the sub for voting but don't vote themselves
Motivation
This avoids the problem of the direction board doing anything for personal gain but retains the functionality of the position.
It is mostly intended to prevent abuse of power via the direction board members molding the server to their vision, instead of the player's vision.
Detailed design
Polling should be enabled via the site and then performed through there (#4), with direction board member votes not being counted toward the total.
Non-polling issues (such as general direction board power) should be moderated by the players and oversight board.
Drawbacks
The direction board members have expressed concern that this would reduce their position to merely a "secretary editing dictation" position.
Specifically: "Wow. Sign me up for that thankless waste of my time." -- Schneider
This would also result in much less effective proposals as the amalgamated view of the server will result in excessive conflict during issue proposals and stagnate the evolution of the server with excessive democracy and bureaucracy.
Alternatives
Leaving the direction board positions as-is is the most viable alternative.
At least until the direction board has had some time to implement some more proposals.
Other alternatives are welcomed.
Unresolved questions
Direct, technical integration with osiris must still be discussed.
