Crash to desktop after a random period of time

Hello there, I've also had this issue with a previous fix that featured BepinEx. Any idea what may been causing this crashes?

For the record, I've played almost 20 hours with the "vanilla" game and it worked flawlessly.

Btw, thanks for doing these, I've used numerous of your fixes in the past, keep up the great work!

I'm not sure but this game requires a few tweaks to BepInEx to even get it to boot. It seems to use a fairly tweaked version of Unity with lots of custom additions which may be causing BepInEx to trip up. Is the crashing totally random? There doesn't appear to be any specific area it crashes on/in?

I'm gonna do some testing this weekend but it seems to happen after something loads in the game, never during gameplay. Last 2 crashes were after changing zones and another after completing a quest.

Another minor bug I noticed is that the screen remains completely dark after certain events like upgrading an amulet or buying something from a shop but it's easily fixed by pressing start or opening and closing the map.

I've added a fix for the screen going black sometimes in v0.8.5. For the crashing, can you post your next BepInEx.log after the game crashes? It's possible the last log message will give a hint about where it crashed (if it caused it?). I haven't actually encountered any crashing on my end but I haven't played that far yet.

A little update from my weekend session since I haven't been able to play this whole week. I've had a couple of crashes with 0.8.5 but the log was empty, switched back to 0.8.4 and haven't crashed since (albeit only 2.5 hours). Will do some further testing this weekend but I'm almost done with the game.

EDIT: just finished the game, no crashes in the last 8 hours with version 0.8.4 (probably random but it was worth noting), thanks again for making this fix!

Same here, using v.0.8.6 via Steam. There's no BepInEx.log anywhere, but the ErrorLog.log file inside the BepInEx folder is empty. The LogOutput.log doesn't have anything out of the ordinary.

For me the game plays without any issues for 30 or so minutes, and then it crashes to desktop. It doesn't seem to be related to Ubisoft Connect (I have disabled everything I could disable, and I also tested killing the Ubisoft Connect Launcher process via task manager after launching the game - and the game still crashed after 30 minutes).

The crahes happens always just after entering a new room. For me all crashes have happened in different parts of the game. I don't see a specific pattern to them, other than the time it takes to crash.

I also monitored the memory consumption over the course of the gameplay, and I couldn't find and symptons of a memory leak.

If it helps with anything, I'm playing the game on a 32:9 resolution (5120x1440).

@Lyall please let me know how can I help debugging this issue.

I'm having the same problem. It just crashes. (0.8.6. Steam version).

0.8.4. Steam version gets me into the game and works so far.

I'm having the same crashes with 0.8.6 Steam version. I haven't found any pattern. Version 0.8.4 works.

I had a crash on 0.8.6, switched to 0.8.4, played with native resolution 3440x1440, and after a day, plugin is not loading any longer.

Getting these crashes too, no particular behavior to report, these appear to be completely random. Also getting black screens when I purchase stuff from the blacksmith. Error log is empty unfortunately.

Getting similar crashes on steamdeck shortly after getting to the start menu. The issue doesn't appear when first launching the game after adding the patch but only on subsequent starts. Kinda like the bug mentioned here.

I also had crashes right after the logo, in the start menu. Set skip intro to false in the config file solved issue with crashes for me. Now I need to watch all the intro, but at least no crashes. I'm on steam version.
