App version 1.2.0 not released

it seems like app version 1.2.0 was never released, at least for the Nano devices. The last version available via Ledger Live is 1.0.2. I tested on a Nano S and a Nano X. I didn't test on Stax, and on Flex it's not yet available anyways. Notably, the disclaimer for keeping backups is missing (which despite the commit message had been implemented for Nano devices as well), and the fix for #38, but probably also other changes.

The changelog hints at a change of derivation paths, so special care should be taken that this does not affect the generated passwords for users which had been using the older app versions so far.

Hello @danimoh 👋 Thanks for the reminder.

v1.2.0 version was not released full stop. v1.1.1 is available for a very specific (and old) version of Stax, but except this one Stax and Flex can't have passwords.
The app still has significant bugs which require time and cautious testing before a version could be released.

At this point, given the size of the apps team and our priorities, it is fair to say that this app is no longer maintained by Ledger. This could change, but I have no hint that would allow me to think so.

If app-passwords is effectively no longer maintained by Ledger and you still require a Ledger app that can do basic password management then may I suggest Ledger's app-seed-tool.
There is a pull request for this app that adds the ability to generate passwords based on the BIP-85 standard.

@lpascal-ledger Ah, that's sad that the app is not officially being maintained anymore. It's still a great usecase for Ledger devices, in my opinion.

However, it seems like app version 1.2.0 was eventually released for the REVAMPED_IO, at least for some devices. Hopefully it also went through the cautious testing you mentioned 😄

I've seen the update on a Nano X, so probably the S Plus also got it. The legacy Nano S did not.
Did the Stax get the update (it's listed in ledger-app-database)? In that case it would arguably make sense to make the app also eventually available for the Flex.

@aido Thanks for that hint and the work on your app. Looks very interesting indeed. I'll follow the project for updates. Fingers crossed that it can be released soon.
Ideally, it would be cool if the password feature in your Seed Tool app could support the following, to be a full replacement for the current passwords app:

• be also supported on Nano X/S Plus/maybe even S.
• typing the password as a keyboard, not just displaying it.
• maybe more control over the characters to use, but I guess the choice of digits/base64/base85 is already not bad.
• password labels (for example "Github") which map to the used derivation index, password length and format, for conveniently accessing passwords. Those should then be able to be exported and imported.

Fingers crossed that it can be released soon.

v1.8.1 of the app contains some bug fixes and the pull request first needs to be merged by Ledger. Once that is done v1.9.0 is ready to go. This is the version that adds BIP85 functionality for Flex and Stax

It will almost definitely not be supported on Nano S. Nano S is EOL.
Nano X and Nano S+ are possible but lets get Flex and Stax v1.9.0 released first,

another good suggestion. But again, v1.9.0 with basic BIP85 support needs to be released first and then we can expand on it.
