Ability to connent to the music stream with other programs.

Is there/Can there be a way to connect into the music stream with other programs? All you need is the IP(hostname) & port number, 192.168.1.34:3000. At that point I can open up RadioTray , VLC, or mpg123 and connect it to the music stream.

One example of this is I use mpg123 and 2 cron jobs to connect to a music stream for a kind of alarm clock. Once the music stops I know I better get myself out the door or I will be late for work.
