First of all, congrats on your project. I liked it.
I am on Ubuntu mate 20.04 platform. For some reason I need to use onboard virtual keyboard, but it's impossible to type in search box. It ignores letters typed by onboard.
I hope you fix it.
All the best.

Which virtual keyboard are you using? I've just tested with onboard and it ignores the first key press but then works. Could you check if you see the same behaviour?

@FlamingTempura thank you for responding. I use compiz as window manager. I launched proto-launcher within terminal.
I tested it via onboard. proto-launcher doesn't grab keystrokes. All they keys I typed via onboard goes to terminal window.
