Might also be helpful to run mypy to check types in CI

A little bit of thought should go into this, ideally it wouldn't interrupt our workflow (much). We could have a (scheduled) action to run formatting rather than requiring it perfect on PRs (might be more of a pain to develop)

A basic riff configuration is already in place, most warnings/errors resolved
