As BOUT++ are typically changing frequently a better method for handling adding of new variables (not currently in the database).

A proposed solution:

  1. Throw a more verbose error (more than just a semi-cryptic SQLError)
  2. Adding a flag allowing to create the new variable in the database (previous entries are set to NULL for this variable)
