Description

The network field of the Task Manager does not work.

Steps to reproduce

Installed a fresh copy of the latest version of Atlas, and open task manager
image

Expected behavior

The network field should update to show the network use of each process

Actual behavior

All entries for network show 0 Mbps

Atlas Edition

Atlas for Windows 11 23H2

Desktop information

Gigabyte B650M DS3H rev. 1.0 - build in 2.5 Gbe NIC

Can you expand on this? I used the download from the website when I reinstalled windows not too long ago. I'm not keen on wiping and reinstalling again, and it seems that atlas cannot be upddated.

Yeah, that isn't the most recent version to the development standard really. When I say latest artifact I mean using the playbook based on the current last commit.

I am also interested to know how to fix this.
As a workaround, I use the Resource Monitor, one of the Window's Administrative Tools, to display the network usage by process.

This issue is still relevant, but it's hard to track down as it seems to break after a random amount of time after applying Atlas. I tried to fix it for v0.4.0, but I couldn't find a root cause in time.

It's a priority for this to be fixed for the next release.

For anyone having this issue, it would be helpful if you commented on your answers to these questions to narrow down the issue more:

  • Did you change anything in the Atlas folder before having the issue?
  • Did you use automatic driver installation?
  • Does it happen on the latest Windows Updates?

I only just noticed my network column in Task Manager also displays all zeroes, Windows 11 and Atlas 0.4.0. Unfortunately, I'm not certain since when that started happening. I haven't changed anything of note in my system other than install all pending updates about a week ago. I've used manual driver installation - GPU, chipset and network drivers I have installed from websites of their respective manufacturers, other stuff - either through SDIO, or from the Windows Update Catalog (Xbox controller drivers).

If there's any data you need from my system, I'll provide it.

Does data usage in Settings work?

They have diffrent names in services.msc, anyways check in registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DusmSvc is value "Start" set to 2. This might help.

On my system, OneSyncSvc could not be set to "Automatic" or "Manual" due to the "Parameter is incorrect" error, WerSvc does not exist, and UCPD was already running. Hi, I just went through all these checks since I have the same issue.
However I am still using Windows 11 (Home Edition) and I am about to change to Atlas. I just wanted to share that this seems to be a native problem from Windows (possibly due to OEM edition).

EDIT: after installing Windows 11 Pro version from last month, no problem. Same on Atlas. A clean install should work.

Then probably as Gabriel said, it's just Windows overall problem, although I am pretty sure this is some tweak or service.

Unfortunately this didn't fix either of the problems for me, although I noticed something about Task Manager - while it's still showing 0 Mbps for every process, if I sort my processes by network usage, then processes are actually being sorted according to their network usage (if I load a page in my browser, it goes to the top of the list).

Right now I have DiagTrack disabled but DPS running, and... it's different now for some reason. Now sorting by network usage does nothing. Re-enabling the DPS service and restarting Task Manager did not help. I didn't change anything in my system in the meantime.

Can you try enabling (and setting start to automatic) service Data Usage (DusmSvc)?
It is the core service for this data.

Nevermind, I found the reason (atleast for me) that caused this. Enable Network Location Awareness service and it should work. I don't know why it's needed but just enable it. Works fine for me.

Or just paste this command inside Powershell and it should work:

Set-Service -Name NlaSvc -StartupType Automatic
Start-Service -Name NlaSvc
Set-Service -Name DPS -StartupType Automatic
Start-Service -Name DPS

For context, it enables those services:
